Invisalign vs. Braces: Who is a Good Candidate for Invisalign?
Invisalign is a popular new alternative to braces because not only are they fairly comfortable and easy to install, but they are essentially invisible braces! The Invisalign system is a virtually invisible and hygienic orthodontic treatment that uses a series of custom-made removable aligners created to fit your mouth. The aligners are made of moulded plastic and are worn over your teeth to gradually move them into the ideal position. Invisalign straightens teeth and boasts many benefits over braces for certain people and situations. Here at Northern Beaches Dental Practice, we offer our patients in Frenchs Forest Invisalign treatment and braces, for adults, teenagers and children.
Invisalign Treatment or Braces – Which is the Better Option?
Here at Northern Beaches Dental Practice, we cater to all your family’s dental needs. We offer traditional braces and orthodontics for children, teenagers and adults, but we also offer Invisalign services for teenagers, young adults and adults alike. Aligners like Invisalign are good for correcting mild to moderately crowded or incorrectly spaced teeth, while traditional braces may be needed for more complex cases. If you have severe orthodontic problems and are an adult, you may still require traditional braces. Although there may be an increased cost, however, Invisalign might be a better option for you. The benefits of Invisalign include:
- Aligners are virtually invisible and discreet
- Aligners have no rough edges or wires, making them more comfortable
- Aligners can be removed easily to clean your teeth
- Appointments at the dentist are faster and more comfortable
You may be a great candidate for Invisalign if these benefits appeal to you, you prefer discreet options and your correction requirements are mild to moderate.
How do Invisalign Aligners work?
Invisible braces are appealing to those who wish to remain discreet when it comes to the aesthetics of orthodontics. But how do they work? When you start treatment, your dental practitioner will first take photos, X-rays and impressions or scans of your teeth. These are then used to create a 3D treatment plan. You will receive a series of aligners that you will wear for a specific period. Each aligner will gently move your teeth into the desired corrected position. You then continue to change to new aligners, until your teeth reach the right position. Braces are often the cheaper option as they are fixed for the duration of your correction treatment. It is impossible, however, to determine the overall cost without an orthodontist consultation.
